Timothy Koch, author of I Town

timothy koch Hello and welcome to I Town. This story took me three years to develop from a vague mental image of lots of people walking a big treadwheel into a massive story about a complex society of wonderful, strange, and amazing people who turn their own body weight into electricity.

It’s my first journey into dystopia, at least in the realm of fiction. I experienced a view of the world as one big dystopia growing up around conspiracy theorists who felt disenfranchised by the government and the religious establishment. I’m curious and amazed at how one class of people can subjugate and control another. It’s a fascinating aspect of our species. But I’m more interested in how we, the governed, allow ourselves to be controlled and coerced, how we can invest in ideas based on their presentation rather than their implication, how susceptible we are to pack behavior and herd mentality.
